Deep Tissue Massage In a Deep Tissue Massage, the therapist uses a deeper level of touch to address specific areas of chronic tension and holding. Often, Trigger Point Therapy or Myofascial Release techniques have to be used in order to release extremely tight musculature, friction or rolling to break up adhesions. These techniques are sometimes integrated into Swedish Massage, creating a seamless blend of soothing relaxation and deep pressure. At other times they might fill the entire session. A Deep Tissue Massage can be especially useful in areas that have not yet fully recovered from old injury and/or the body’s compensations, and in areas that are under chronic strain from computer usage, athletics or stress. Deep Tissue Massage, however, is not for everyone. There can be mild to moderate discomfort during the massage as tight muscles are worked, and there can be soreness after, similar to what you experience after a particularly rigorous workout. |
